چکیده

We develop high order accurate source discretizations for hyperbolic wave propagation problems in first order formulation that are discretized by finite di↵erence schemes. By studying the Fourier series expansions of the source discretization and the finite di↵erence operator, we derive su cient conditions for achieving design accuracy in the numerical solution. Only half of the conditions in Fourier space can be satisfied through moment conditions on the source discretization, and we develop smoothness conditions for satisfying the remaining accuracy conditions. The resulting source discretization has compact support in physical space, and is spread over as many grid points as the number of moment and smoothness conditions. In numerical experiments we demonstrate high order of accuracy in the numerical solution of the 1-D advection equation (both in the interior and near a boundary), the 3-D elastic wave equation, and the 3-D linearized Euler equations.

Numerical methods for hyperbolic systems with singular coefficients: well-balanced scheme, Hamiltonian preservation, and beyond

This paper reviews some recent numerical methods for hyperbolic equations with singular (discontinuous or measure-valued) coefficients. Such problems arise in wave propagation through interfaces or barriers, or nonlinear waves through singular geometries. The connection between the well-balanced schemes for shallow-water equations with discontinuous bottom topography and the Hamiltonian preserv...

Internal Gravity Waves and Hyperbolic Boundary-value Problems†

Talk Abstract Three-dimensional time-harmonic internal gravity waves are generated by oscillating a bounded object in an unbounded stratified fluid. Energy is found in conical wave beams. The problem is to calculate the wave fields for an object of arbitrary shape. It can be formulated as a hyperbolic boundary-value problem. The following aspects are discussed: reduction to boundary integral eq...

Torsional Surface Wave Propagation in Anisotropic Layer Sandwiched Between Heterogeneous Half-Space

The present paper studies the possibility of propagation of torsional surface waves in an inhomogeneous anisotropic layer lying between two heterogeneous half-spaces (upper and lower half-space). Both the half-spaces are assumed to be under compressive initial stress. The study reveals that under the assumed conditions, a torsional surface wave propagates in the medium. The dispersion relation ...

Estimation of Fracture path in the Structures and the Influences of Non-singular term on crack propagation

In the present research, a fully Automatic crack propagation as one of the most complicated issues in fracture mechanics is studied whether there is an inclusion or no inclusion in the structures. In this study The Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM) is utilized because of several drawbacks in standard finite element method in crack propagation modeling. Estimated Crack paths are obtained by ...

The occurrence of SH wave propagation under the effect of a point source in an orthotropic substratum lying over a heterogeneous orthotropic half space is deliberated in the prospect of a devastating earthquake. The quadratic alteration is acknowledged for density and shear modulus which is hypothesized to be a function of depth. The method of Green's function and transformation technique contr...
